Class 20-27

8136 & 8016 BR blue 8136 & green 8016 depart Stapleford and Sandiacre sidings adjacent to Toton TMD with a loaded mineral train on 10/05/1973, note how there are no lines of stored locos in front of the shed like there is now!
8301 & 8023 Green 8023 & Br blue 8301 pass Stapleford immediately North of Toton yards with a a loaded coal train believed to have emanated from the Kirkby area on 14/06/1972, note the industrial skyline provided by Stanton ironworks which has now all closed and also the colour lights on the gantry which have route indicators for movements into the now lifted Stanton Gate up sidings. photo: PR Collection.
Barrow Hill 20023, 2 other 20s, an 08 and a 47 rest around the turntable in the roundhouse at Barrow Hill on 04/04/1976.
Sandiacre 20066 & a green liveried partner pass Stapleford and Sandiacre shunt frame as they approach Toton yard with an MGR probably bound for nearby Ratcliffe power station.
20107 20107 propels a heavy load of steel bars along the Flixborough wharf branch on 07th March 1996.
Mossend I bet this was noisy, an undated pic of 20118 piloting 37151 and 37112 passing Mossend North Jn with an ore train from Hunterston to Ravenscraig. I visited this location myself 2 or 3 times and have some nice and loud video footage, but unfortunately no stills of the triple headers.
Llandudno A class 24 and a class 40 sit in the carriage sidings at Llandudno Junction.
Brymbo A class 24 passes Brymbo in North Wales with a steel train in snowy weather, date & photographer unknown.
25189 25189 hauls an ex works Merseyrail unit passed Wigan Springs Branch on 02/06/1982.
Eastfield TMD Amongst a large collection of locos stabled at the East end of Glasgow Eastfield TMD on 03/07/79 are 20089, 25202, 08227 and 27110.
25245 & 25060 25245 & 25060 approach Acton Grange Jn with a track panel train for Arpley yard on 28/03/1983.
25281 25281 passes Moss Lane near Timperley.

Toton 25293 arrives at Toton on Sunday 21/04/1974 with the 9Z06 engineering train.
26003 26003 in Trainload coal livery climbs off Jamestown viaduct at Inverkeithing and up towards the Forth Bridge in July 1989.
26010 26010 approaches Burntisland on 13/09/86 with the 1231 Kirkaldy-Edinburgh.
26024 26024 approaches Motherwell on 02/05/1991 with bogie steel bolsters.

31327 & 31247 31327 & 31247 approach Luton on 15/07/89 with a Forders-Cricklewood binliner.
31422 Mainline liveried 31422 arrives at Nottingham station on 17/08/1991 with the 0957 Sheffield-Skegness, I was probably at work in the Travel Centre on the station when this was taken.
33002 33002 heads Westbound through West Ealing on 04/11/1988 with Old Oak Common breakdown crane.

Class 37

Grangemouth A selection of Scottish class 37s sit on shed as Grangemouth in June 1974.
D6809 D6809, later renumbered 37109 under TOPS and now preserved on the East Lancashire Railway, waits for the signal at the long closed Sheffield Victoria in June 1966.
37006 37006 (which later became 37798) powers passed Gledholt on the Trans-pennine route with a loaded coal train, circa 1982.
37027 37027 & ETHEL unit 97251 stand at Crianlarich on 16/03/84 with the Fort William bound sleepers.
37037 Eastfield allocated 37037 runs off the wagons it has just arrived in fort William yard with from Corpach on 17/03/84.

37043 37043 Loch Lomond arrives at Crianlarich circa 1984 with a Fort William-Glasgow Queen Street service.

37075 37075 stands with the breakdown train at Morpeth on 25/06/84 after 47452 had derailed on the sharp curve with the Aberdeen-Kings Cross sleepers.
37111 37111 "Glengarnock" passes Golf Street near Carnoustie with a 6A15 Mossend-Aberdeen conveying empty timber wagons, date unknown. This loco was saved for preservation and whilst at Barrow Hill awaiting restoration, was purchased by DRS in May 2001 and sent for an overhaul at DML Devonport which was then abandoned and the bodyshell was cut by EMR at Kingsbury in July 2003.

Normanton An unidentified class 40 winds over the junction at Goose Hill, Normanton, South Yorks.

40122 40122 is seen with a Leeds-Carlisle working at the Southern end of the S&C, date unknown.
40122 40122 is seen with a steel train at Brymbo steel works near Wrexham in 1979. The steel works here closed in 1985. 40122 was later stored and then re-born as D200 for working BR special charter trains.
40132 40132 departs from Chester with a ballast train, probably from Penmaenmawr quarry, in 1980.

Peak at Standedge A peak class 45/1 on a Trans-Pennine service is about to enter Standedge tunnel in the Pennines, if only trains such as this existed regularly on such scenic routes now.
York 45125 approaches York on 09/07/86 with the 0610 Liverpool Lime Street-Newcastle. This loco is now preserved on the Great Central Railway.
45125 45125 heads along the down slow line at Hendon on 19/03/85 working the 1805 St Pancras-Nottingham.
Diggle 45128 on a Trans-pennine service passes 25285 in the loop at Diggle. I bet the guy walking along the sleeper ends was a bit chilly!
45150 45150 passes Radlett on 16th May 1985 whilst working the 1735 St Pancras-Derby.
Ribblehead A Peak loco brings a Glasgow-Nottingham express off Ribblehead viaduct on 31/03/1984.
46027 46027 accelerates passed Tupton between Clay Cross and Chesterfield on 03/07/1981 with a Bardon Hill-Beighton ballast working.
46044 46044 departs from Doncaster in 1978 with a Newcastle-kings Cross service.

Class 47

1806 Trent South Jn BR blue liveried 1806 (47325) passes Trent South Jn with 6D59 Ratcliffe-Toton MGR empties on 16/05/73.
D1893 D1893, later renumbered 47374 under TOPS, arrives at the long closed Sheffield Victoria in June 1966.
47009/47219 47009 waits in the platform as 47219 approaches Elgin on 27/02/1985.
47079 Its days as celebrity GWR green liveried G.J.Churchward now over, de-named Trainload construction liveried 47079 comes to the rescue of an ailing HST at Newton Abbott on 04/06/88. This loco was later re-engined to become 57009.
47099 47099 passes Eaglescliffe under a threatening sky with 6O49 Tees Yd-Eastleigh on 21/06/91.

47321 47321 stands in for a class 50 as it approaches Woking on 14/08/1992 with the 0750 Yeovil-Waterloo.
47402 47402 GATESHEAD stands at York on 02/01/82, note all the people around on the platforms awaiting the final Deltic operated special.
47406 47406 RAIL RIDERS crosses Downham Bridge, Whalley Lancs with the 0937 Carlisle-Euston which had been diverted over the Settle & Carlisle line, 2nd April 1983.
47448 47448 comes off the Britannia bridge in the early 1970's with a Holyhead-Euston train, during the period of reconstruction following the fire in 1970, this photo is from the period during the prep work for the A55 roadway being installed above the railway line.
47453 Large loco liveried 47453 "ELAND" squeels around the tight curve between March station and Whitemoor yard as it arrives on 6H96 from Norwich on 25/04/91.
47457 With its Stratford white roof, BR blue liveried 47457 stands at the Buffer stops at Kings Lynn after arriving with an express from London Liverpool Street on 29/07/85.

Inverness 47550 University of Dundee which looks 'monsterous' in large logo livery departs from Inverness with a service to London Euston. This image is slightly smaller than usual to try and counter slight motion blur on the loco.
Motherwell A selection of loco types sit outside Motherwell TMD circa 1984 with 37139/47550 & 20138 able to be identified.
47563 47563 WOMENS GUILD hauls an internal Scottish region service. Large logo livery along with black headcode boxes and either a Highland stag or Eastfield terrier motif really suited these locos.
47564 47564 "Colossus" passes South Bank on 29/04/91 with a steel bloom trip from BSC Lackenby to Tees Yard.
Forth Bridge A large logo liveried class 47 crosses the Forth rail bridge and approaches North Queensferry with an Edinburgh-Aberdeen working on 19/05/1990.
47706 47706 & 37372 stand outside the shed at Thornaby on 19/04/1992, (I have removed a lighting stanchion from above the 47). Photo PRC.
47708 47708 passes Horse Cove, Dawlish on 31/08/91 with the 1114 Southampton-Plymouth.

Class 50-55

500xx An unidentified 50 departs from Teignmouth with an up express.
50007 50007 HERCULES approaches Reading station in 1981 with a Paddington bound express, prior to the loco being chosen to be reliveried in GW green and renamed Sir Edward Elgar in the mid 1980s.
50030 50030 REPULSE departs Exeter Central on 31/08/91 with the 1020 Exeter St Davids-Waterloo.
50038/044 50038 & 50044 race through Iver on the GWML with an express for Paddington, 04/08/75.
50043 50043 EAGLE pauses at Reading with an Up van train.
50046 50046 AJAX passes Talerton on 31/08/91 with the 1315 Waterloo-Exeter.
50050/50033 D400 and 50033 head South at Colton Jn on 05/06/1993 with 1Z41 "Bishops Triple" charter returning from York to Minehead. The train had headed North with 50007 also on the front, this had been takej into the NRM for short term display. Also note the Pilkington 'K' Glass liveried stock.
1023 1023 WESTERN FUSILIER passes a snowy scene, no other details re date of location known, please drop me a line if you recognise the spot.
55010 An unnamed 55010 rests at the buffer stops at Kings Cross, Date unknown. Note the spotter complete with flared jeans, Parka, long hair and adidas bag, as good as getting a car in your shot to date the era in the future.

Class 56/58

56047 Dutch-Transrail liveried 56047 approaches Eaglescliffe with 4L79 Wilton-Felixstowe liner. Although this was a Freightliner service, class 56's were hired from EWS and worked singly or in pairs on this working.

DMU's/EMU's/HST's

Met Camm unit A green Metro-Cammel class 101 unit departs Perth on 01st May 1965 on a train to Dundee. This view is no longer possible due to the growth of vegetation and new building works.
110 unit A class 110 DMU departs from Todmorden after setting down several passengers as a class 101 unit arrives from the oppsite direction, 22/08/84.
54004 South Yorkshire PTE liveried 54004/53045 pass Barkston Jn signalbox with a Skegness-Nottingham service on 13/06/1987.
304032 304032 stands in one of the bay platforms at Crewe in December 1982 waiting to depart for Liverpool Lime Street.
M59604M Hadfield 1500v DC EMU lead by vehicle M59604M stands at Manchester Piccadilly.
252001 Prototype HST set 252001 is seen at a special event at Shildon in 1978, no problems with the H&SE in those days obviously! Can you imagine an event nowadays where you could stand on the track adjacent to an open running line??.
43142 43142 in original 'Flying Banana' livery leads an HST into Paddington from the West of England, 29/05/85.

Electrics

82007 82007 heads South passed Crewe Basford Hall Jn in 1980.
86329 86329 passes Brock on the North west section of the WCML on 26/08/81 with a Ravenscraig-Llanwern steel coil train.
87006 87006 makes a fine sight in the Lune Gorge on 13/07/89 with the 0650 Plymouth-Glasgow.
